The Charles Engelhard Foundation

The Charles Engelhard Foundation is a private philanthropy that supports innovative programs, services, and research dedicated to enhancing student health, engagement, learning outcomes, and success at colleges and universities across the United States.

Other projects supported by the Charles Engelhard Foundation include:

Bringing Theory to Practice (BTtoP)
Bringing Theory to Practice (BToP) seeks to advance engaged student learning and determine how it can improve the quality of students' education, development, health, and commitment to civic engagement. The Project is exploring forms of engaged learning (including civic, service-learning and community-directed collaborative research) and their effectiveness as elements of campus plans to reduce alcohol abuse and depression among students.
The College Outcomes Project
The College Outcomes Project extends the work of the Bringing Theory to Practice project. The Outcomes project has convened an expert panel to 1. better define critical outcomes of a "liberal and liberating education," and 2. initiate conversation about how the academy might measure the results of a "meaningful" liberal education by identifying and constructing appropriate assessment measures.
In addition to the acquisition of knowledge of science, philosophy, history, human cultures, critical thinking, and integrative learning, the Outcomes project will focus on the ends of education that include: development of a strong and secure sense of self; ability to take the perspective of and work well with others; possession of discipline, perseverance, and resilience; commitment to something larger than oneself; delight in being both autonomous and interdependent; and comfort in facing new challenges to continuously learn and grow.
